There is something so special about the Dragon Bowl at Aux Vivres vegan restaurant in Montreal, Canada… Here at The Esmonde Technique, we call ourselves regulars and when any of our lovely clients are in town, there are definitely a few meals spent at Aux Vivres! I am currently out of Montreal and have been trying desperately to recreate the magical bowl. I think I have come pretty close.
The bowl consists of brown rice, grated carrots, grated beets, steamed spinach, sliced diakon, sprouts and grilled tofu. The colours and flavours of all these ingredients are perfect! Sometimes I get a little crazy and add steamed bok choy and steamed broccoli.
The sauce is the secret. Here is the closest I have come!
Jacki's Secret Sauce:
Blend the following:
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
3 tbsp. olive oil
1 tbsp. maple syrup
2 tbsp. tamari soy sauce
2 tbsp. tahini
2 tbsp. filtered water
1 large or 2 medium cloves of garlic

NHL's Montreal Canadiens kicked off their 2012-2013 season with Essentrics at their side! Sahra Esmonde-White, Laurence Bonneville and Erika Vipond headed to the weeklong Brossard Training Camp to incorporate a stretch program into the professional hockey players daily workout routine. So far, it's been an incredible experience! The athletes are focused, motivated and starting to feel results, even after just 20-30 minute sessions. Now off to the Bell Centre we go! We will keep you posted, GO HABS GO!
It is such a treat spending a week in the South doing the Classical Stretch workout with Miranda. Though our studio is a beautiful and comfortable space, I LOVE getting moving under the sun! I have a bunch of clients who take their laptops onto the patio to add some vitamin D to their workouts! Do you take your Essentrics or Classical Stretch outside?
My mother is Miranda Esmonde White. For you, she is the host and creator of Classical Stretch. She is on your TV in the mornings and she likely has helped you through her profoundly effective exercise program. To me, she is an inspiration. She has dedicated her life to helping people feel better in their bodies and her positive influence on her PBS viewers and students informs many of her decisions and much of her pride. I too am greatly affected by her work. As the Executive producer of Classical Stretch I have a part in creating the show, but it is my mother whose creativity, dedication and passion for healing, create its meaningful content. Her program has changed my life, but also her passion and work ethic have helped form who I am! This mothers day, my wish is that all you mothers know how much you mean to your children! My mom is a special person whom I love and am so proud to be her daughter. Happy Mothers Day Mom!
I have always been grateful to my mom for creating the Esmonde Technique but it has not been until very recently that i realised how lucky i really am, or that both of us are. The Esmonde Technique is so much more than a fitness class, its a health transforming and anti-aging workout. Because of this, Miranda and i at both our respective ages have healthy active and vibrant bodies. Recently i've had encounter after encounter with people who are panicking because they are noticing their parents health begin to change: reduced mobility, tight hips that create a shuffling movement making walking uncomfortable, unhealthy weight gain, low energy, and lack of movement in their upper backs and shoulders. I am mentioning these because they are signs! Signs telling you that your parents quality of life and ability to function on their own is taking a turn downwards and it is time to begin to help them now! Not in 5 years when these signs have caused more serious problems. If we dont take the time to help the people around us in a preventative way when we can, then we will be dealing with much more serious issues later. Doctors visits, physical therapy, other therapy which are all stressful and take money and time. So my advice to my friends: unless you want to see your parents decline, and begin spending more time in medical settings and ultimately have your parents and inlaws moving in with you (which they dont want either) i suggest that you take any Esmonde Technique DVD to their homes and do the workouts with them twice a week. Make this a positive thing that you can do together. This investment in the ones you love will pay you back a million times with peace of mind and happiness knowing your family is growing older with vibvrant and healthy years ahead of them.
This is a thank you to everyone who has supported Classical Stretch and Essentrics, and who send us such positive messages of encouragement (whether written or not). I'm sharing this photo because it was such a special day for us in Rome. Rome is a city of churches, and no matter what religion or denomination you are, a Church Temple or Mosque is a symbolic place that reminds us of a possibe higher spirit that watches over us and guides us. We feel very grateful to have Classical Stretch & Essentrics in our lives, and every day that we can share that with others is a good day! Miranda and i wandered into this church next to the Pantheon - the Santa Maria sopra Minerva - which was once the Temple of Minerva and had a moment of extreme gratitude. Hope we can continue sharing this program with you and many others for years to come.
Chatelaine is Quebec's most read women's magazine. The journalist came in to try a class this summer and was pleasantly surprised at how challenging the class was. She was excited to sit down with us after her first experience to understand what the techniques were and why she felt so rejuvenated after class. In the September issue, she shared with her readers what she felt was a perfect mix of healthy fitness and body toning. This article was in French, sorry, there is no on-line version available!
Miranda has been a regular contributor to one of our local papers. Before heading to the National Ballet School, Miranda grew up in Westmount, a lovely neighborhood in Montreal. Now, years later she's helping to keep them informed with her health and fitness tips. No online version is available, but sign up on www.classicalstretch.com for the Classical Stretch newsletter to get great tips from Miranda every month!
